Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program

On December 5, 2009 34 people representing the boy scouts, church, and other groups worked together at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Carmel to build 14 – 5′x10′ and 3 – 10′x10′ raised planting beds for the St. Christopher’s Crops garden ministry. Funded by the Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program, Carter-Lee Lumber, and various private donors, volunteers, led by David Atkinson working on his Eagle Scout Project, worked from 8:50 A.M. until 2:45 P.M. to realize the project that will provide needed fresh organic produce to area food pantries in the spring and summer. David stated that “It was great to be able to do something for the community as a whole, and I am thankful to the people at the Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant program for enabling me to carry out this service.”

Despite the cold weather, the youth cheerfully begin building the new organic garden beds.		Volunteers help prepare the ground before laying down the wooden garden bed frame.
Carmel Area Roots & Shoots members visit the project site to thank everyone for their dedication to making Carmel a greener community.		Youth help direct the construction of the organic garden beds. It took 34 volunteers nearly 6 hours to build the 17 garden beds.
