2011 Awards Ceremony

CarmelGreenTeenAllc2_1Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant recipients and board members celebrate with Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard and Superintendent of Carmel-Clay Schools Dr. Jeff Swensson at the check presentation ceremonies at the Carmel City Council chambers on March 18, 2011.  Youth groups from previously funded Carmel Green Teen projects joined the five newest grant recipient groups to both reflect upon and look ahead at the program’s impact on Carmel.
GreenTeen2011GreenerBag1_1Towne Meadow Elementary School’s Girl Scout Troop 1120 received a $165 grant to help fund their reusable shopping bag promotion and educational campaign entitled, A Greener Tomorrow is in the Bag.
GreenTeen2011MissionRecycle1_1The Carmel Middle School Green Team will use their $550 in grant money to educate students and provide 10 Clear Stream recycling bins to be used in CaMS lunchrooms and at performing arts and athletic events.
GreenTeen2011FishingLIne1_1Boy Scout Troop 202 will begin the first monofilament fishing line recycling program in Indiana by installing and maintaining receptacles in the seven Carmel-Clay parks with fishing ponds.
GreenTeen2011CHS2c_1Carmel High School Environmental Club members receive a check for $936 to help fund long-awaited recycling bins for the lunchrooms at CHS.  They will also produce video announcements promoting use of the bins.
GreenTeen20113Rs2c_1Fifth grade students from Woodbrook Elementary School created a project called Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.  They will reduce fuel and pollution with a No Idle Zone for cars, they will reuse shoes via a Soles for Souls drive, and they will encourage recycling cans and bottles in their school cafeteria.

CarmelGreenTeenBoard_1Over the past two years, youth members of Carmel Area Roots & Shoots have obtained funding for and have created, developed, and administered the Carmel Green Teen Micro-Grant Program. The youth board members were recognized for their hard work on this unique and creative project through the Environmental Protection Agency’s President’s Environmental Youth Award program.
