It's in the reusable bag 2016

Smoky Row Elementary School Green Team
Picture
Smoky Row Elementary Green Team students promoted and distributed reusable shopping bags on Earth Day. Students learned how reusable bags save resources and produce less waste, and then created an educational brochure distributed to each student in their free reusable shopping bag. Green Team students showed slides in daily announcements shown throughout the school to inform students and staff about the overall environmental and cost value of using reusable shopping bags instead of disposable ones.
Picture
Team members were excited to distribute the bags, and to promote environmental awareness. With each free bag they included an informational fact sheet on why it is so important to avoid disposable bag use. Download this fact sheet here.

A SurveyMonkey form was used to gather metrics on how many participants replaced their use of plastic bags with the reusable bags.

The group of students were excited to be helping reduce pollution in the environment with their reusable bags.
Picture
Students explained and demonstrated how one could carry the bag to the grocery store and skip using single use disposable plastic bags. They also explained why this was such a big deal.

The project team researched online, gathered data and educated Smoky Row students on the positive impacts of reducing the use of plastic bags.
Picture
Smoky Row teachers and staff also received the reusable shopping bags. The school community inspire each other to obtain environmental sustainability goals.

Smoky Row Elementary Green Team students noted, "The best part of the project was winning the grant, going to City Hall, and meeting the mayor. Meeting the Carmel Green Teen youth board was also exciting." They are thrilled to be making a difference in their school community and in the world.
